Since the Outback is full-time all wheel drive, the wagon is not required to be run on a chassis dynomometer for its SMOG testing. Starting in late 2014, the wagon should be eligible for the new check-engine light test used on 2000 and newer vehicles. The gas cap and evap system will be tested and if the check engine light is not lit and the readiness tests in the ECU are all in a completed state, the car should pass.
